Name: Jennifer Duann
Title/Role in education: Teacher
Grade: 10th
Subject: Biology
Location: Lima, OH
PBL Experience: I did two major projects during my student teaching and field experience. The first was a case study unit on genetics with my 10th grade biology students and the second was a hot air balloon project with my 8th grade physical science students. I'm also writing my master's capstone project on PBL, with data from my middle-schoolers.
Team Resources:
Extra Credit Week 1
*Ask yourself, "What matters most in what we are studying? What might my students really care about in this topic?"
-the interconnectedness of Earth's living systems; what happens in the Gulf does NOT stay in the Gulf!
-the chemical and biological processes that unify diverse ecosystems
-empathy and appreciation for all living creatures regardless of their "usefulness" or cute appeal
*Start compiling a list of skills that can be taught through projects.

Hi Jennifer,
Sounds like you've had some good PBL experience already. I'm imagining the hot air balloon project--sounds great! Did you (or students) document the design process w/photos, videos, etc.?
The Gulf topic is all about systems, isn't it? Should be ripe with science project possibilities. Eager to see where you go!

Hi Jennifer,
Have you found team members to work with yet? Let me know if I can help with introductions.
